Workshop: Introduction to Scenario Planning

"The truly important events on the outside are not the trends. They are changes in the trends.” - Peter Drucker

In a world filled with constant change and uncertainty, it is increasingly important to acknowledge the fluid nature of market insights and that the business conditions your clients face have the potential to shift quickly and surprisingly. In this environment, decisions must be made with a full understanding of the range of risks they come with, new opportunities must be identified before they hit the mainstream's radar, and a playbook created to increase agility when change happens. In this interactive session, using practice exercises and a case study of the insights sector itself, participants will learn how scenario planning can help them and their clients navigate this unpredictable future and add value to their advisory work. At the end of the session, they will leave with:

  • A basic understanding of where and how scenario planning can improve insights and strategy
  • Practice in thinking about uncertainty and multiple futures
  • A framework for connecting scenarios to a more dynamic strategy
  • A list of resources to continue to learn and practice the method
