Here’s just some of what we, together, accomplished this year for your benefit and why we’re eager and honored to have you renew your membership for 2021:

The numbers tell the story – and may be viewed in this infographic.

When the pandemic hit, we worked to fill the void of information and provided a forum to commiserate with peers. More than 4,000 attended our Virtual Town Halls to receive guidance from economists, strategic planners, government agency officials, and other experts on critical issues like COVID-19 relief, crisis management, business forecasting, working from home and managing remote teams, diversity & inclusion programs, and mental wellness.

Our COVID-19 tracking studies continue to provide needed clarity on client budgets and expectations, project cancellations and postponements, and shifts in research methods. With qual quickly moving online, we provided training for best practices. When layoffs began, we advocated for suspension of non-compete agreements and hundreds attended our Virtual Job Fairs for advice, encouragement and introduction to companies looking to add qualified staff.

As things began to improve in certain regions, we issued reopening guidelines and hosted a forum to discuss them. All the while, we advocated on your behalf to secure federal relief funds, ease reopening liability burdens in many states, ensure sufficient funding and time for the U.S. Census, and pressed forward on development of a new federal data privacy law. We remain active in many states, especially California, where we are pushing back on onerous elements of the California Consumer Privacy Act and insisting that research participants not be classified as employees.

More information, education & connections – We were among the first to bring conferences online and throughout the year shared innovations and insights, as well as a chance to connect with peers, virtually – all at no cost to IA members. Answering requests to optimize work between market research, CX & UX, we launched the all-new “X” Event. Despite hardships with many of their businesses, volunteers across our 12 Chapters stepped up to creatively deliver fresh content and fun networking opportunities.

Rolled out during the summer, the Insights Professional Certification (IPC) program reflects new methodologies, techniques and technology and stands to be a respected mark of professional honor and distinction for many years to come. We expanded online training on core and emerging research techniques, and members learned from each other and shared resources at an unprecedented scale in our Engage online community.

IA resumed publication of the Top 50 Report of Market Research & Data Analytics and announced plans to expand the report next year with a new taxonomy that defines a broadened Insights & Analytics market. We provided needed data and guidance on the alarming mental health situation impacting our industry. Empowered members with a broader network and expanded benefits through a partnership agreement with the UK’s MRS (Market Research Society) and Australia’s The Research Society and continued work with Women in Research (WIRe) on several fronts, including the recent relaunch of the MRX Diversity Champion Award.

Help us sustain this momentum and these essential services. More than ever, we need you as part of our growing, inclusive, vital market research, data analytics and insights community. A community with a shared dedication to integrity.

Our 2021 plans are ambitious, as we carry forward our mission to Protect, Connect, Inform, and Promote our industry and our members. Our guiding star will be a deep affection for and connection to the great people of our profession, which we will demonstrate by advocacy, event, and education activities that keep us strong and helps us thrive.

During times like these, the value of the Insights Association – both intangible and quantifiable – comes to the fore. Know that you can always turn to us for objective information and advice, tenacious advocacy, sage counsel, mentorship, and community.
