Grassroots Action
Every day, legislators and regulators find new ways to endanger the survey and opinion research profession:
- In Missouri, they want to add automated research calls to their Do Not Call Registry;
- In Alaska and New York, they seek to effectively eliminate marketing research with physicians;
- In Kansas, they've tried to require disclosure of sponsors/clients on any telephone research call;
- In New York, they're looking to curtail political polling;
- In Texas, they want to restrict the ability to share research data between firms;
- At the U.S. Department of Labor, they're trying to make it harder to work as an independent contractor rather than an employee; and
- In Congress, they want to make it all but impossible to collect, use and share research data.
YOU can help turn the tide. YOU can make a difference in the fight to protect and promote the whole research profession - by volunteering as a grassroots member of the Capital Network.
Capital Network members are our power on the ground, across the nation. They act as advocates for the research profession, building relationships with their state and federal representatives and helping to protect research interests in coordination with MRA.
Even if you don't consider yourself to be "political," you can play a critical role in the success of the research profession at the state and federal level. Relationships with state and federal policymakers are critical building blocks in our government affairs efforts. You can educate them about the research profession, the challenges you face and the issues critical to your organization's success -- and lay the groundwork for important victories to come.
