As part of the Budget Control Act, the recently-passed legislation that raised the federal debt limit, Congressional leaders had to appoint 12 members to a "super-committee" responsible for determining more debt reduction. MRA will be keeping close watch on their maneuvers and deliberations to ensure that nothing harmful to the research profession sneaks in, such as restrictions on independent contractor relationships or taxes on marketing research.

The appointed members include Committee co-chairs Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) and Rep. Jeb Hensarling (R-TX), as well as: Sen. Max Baucus (D-MT); Sen. John Kerry (D-MA); Sen. Jon Kyl (R-AZ); Sen. Pat Toomey (R-PA); Sen. Rob Portman (R-OH); Rep. Dave Camp (R-MI); Rep. Fred Upton (R-MI); Rep. James Clyburn (D-SC); Rep. Xavier Becerra (D-CA); and Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD).
